About the event

They Walk Among Us: Vietnam Veterans Voices Preserved

This special program features three local Black veterans who participated in the oral history component of the Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion’s Citizen Archivist incubation grant project.

The program includes highlights and clips from their perspective interviews, a curated artifacts exhibit documenting the Vietnam experience, and a moderated panel discussion. Each participant will have the opportunity to reflect on their involvement in the oral history project and to share personal insights from their time in Vietnam.

Together, these voices move history beyond headlines and statistics, offering lived testimony that honors service, deepens understanding, and affirms the importance of preserving community memory. Experience excerpts from recorded oral histories, view related artifacts and finding aids, and take part in a panel discussion that highlights the Citizen Archivist model—where everyday people become stewards of history.

The project was supported by an incubation grant from the New Jersey…
